OBJECTIONS
In order to achieve the vision, the organisation will:
Provide a 24-hour emergency telephonic counselling and referral service for all children who are in danger or distress;
Give concerned members of the public, including parents, the opportunity to discuss and report cases of suspected child abuse;
Act as a referral source for professionals such as medical doctors, teachers, social workers, lawyers and psychologists, who seek guidance in dealing with cases of suspected or actual child abuse;
Provide therapeutic services to children, more particular, but not exclusively, in order to prevent child abuse, ameliorate its effects in so far as may e possible, reduce the chance of its recurrence and to enhance family functioning;
Provide training in child protection to stakeholders within the provincial network;
Conduct awareness campaigns in schools and communities to educate children on their rights and responsibilities and empower the with knowledge on child abuse;
Design and implement specific programmes for specific target groups as needed
(e.g., orphaned and vulnerable children, traumatized children, etc.)

childline Potchefstroom - North West
Childline North West is one of the leading NGOs in the Province and is well known for its high standard of services rendered to children from impoverished, rural areas. The helpline encourages children and provides them with the opportunity to speak out against their abusers. It also gives them immediate access to services and links them with resources in their geographical area. Children phoning the line know that there are trained crisis counsellors willing to help them at all times. There are no fees attached for children to access the services. The helpline is the only service of its kind specifically for children in the North West province. The helpline is manned by experienced, well trained crisis counsellors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Children who cannot afford professional therapy have access to the services in the JB Marks Municipality, and the biggest part of the Matlosana Municipality as well as Lichtenburg Municipality. This service is also free of charge and children and their caregivers receive therapeutic intervention other supporting services. The services build the resilience of individuals, families and communities and empower them with skills and knowledge to cope with their challenging circumstances and to address social dysfunctions themselves. The social workers conduct mainly school visits and provide effective specialised therapeutic services. The social workers find it important to educate children, parents/caregivers and help them with skills development in order to break the cycle of abuse.
